December 2021 Roundup: What I am Reading, Watching and Listening To
What I Am Reading:
The Age of Funcertainty!
When this era draws to a close – in as ugly a manner possible I can only assume – it may well be remembered as having been more irrational than the Dot Com Bubble and zanier than the Roaring Twenties. It’s worth pointing out how long those infamous moments lasted. They didn’t feel like “moments” to those living through them. They went on for quite a while. As can this.
If history is any guide, the Age of Funcertainty may just be getting started.
How to perform well under pressure
To perform well under pressure, you need several elements in place: an ability to distance yourself from destructive thoughts and self-talk; a way to cope with overwhelming feelings; the mental flexibility to respond in the most effective way; and, finally, to know what matters to you.
Why Americans Are Always Running Out of Time
Technology only frees people from work if the boss—or the government, or the economic system—allows it.
What I am Watching:
How Imaginary Numbers Were Invented
A general solution to the cubic equation was long considered impossible, until we gave up the requirement that math reflect reality.
What I am Listening To:
Roy Erez & Roy Rubin of R-Squared Ventures on How they Think about Investing, Networking, and the Future
We’ve got Roy Erez and Roy Rubin from R-Squared Ventures on the show today. The two have teamed up to invest in Fintech, Enterprise/SMB SaaS, Marketplaces, and Digital Commerce. They’ve both founded, run, scaled, and sold businesses where they stayed on as corporate executives post acquisition. As angels, they’ve invested in over a few dozen startups, and they’re both passionate about supporting the companies and founders they back.
I credit this book as being the only book in the last decade—except maybe a few of Nassim Taleb’s works and maybe one or two other scattered books—that made me smarter. They literally expanded the way that I think. They expanded not just the repertoire of my knowledge but the repertoire of my reasoning.
